Security and safety film in Riyadh

Vision Guard fits 8 mil and 12 mil safety and security film to the glass you already have. When a pane is hit, the film holds the pieces together instead of letting them fall as sharp fragments. We survey and fit across Riyadh from our base in Al Malaz, and back the film and the installation with a 10 year warranty.

What you are buying

A layer that keeps broken glass in one piece

Safety and security film is a layered polyester sheet bonded to the inside face of a window. It does not make glass unbreakable. It changes what happens when the glass is struck: the pane can crack, but the pieces stay attached to the film, so nothing showers down and a forced entry takes noticeably longer.

In a Riyadh building that matters most in three situations.

Accidental impactA trolley, a chair, a ball or a child running into low glass in an office, school corridor or family home.
Forced entrySmash and grab attempts at shopfronts and ground floor villa windows, where speed is what the intruder relies on.
Dust storms and gustsStrong gusts carry sand and loose objects. A pane that cracks high up can drop fragments onto the street below.

Our speciality in Riyadh

8 mil and 12 mil film: choosing the grade for Riyadh glass

Safety and security film is a speciality of ours, and Riyadh is our home market. We fit two grades here, 8 mil and 12 mil, and we choose between them pane by pane.

A mil is one thousandth of an inch, so 8 mil film is about 0.20 mm thick and 12 mil film is about 0.30 mm. Thicker film stretches further before it tears, which gives a forced entry longer to fail. Thickness is only part of the answer, though. How the film is anchored, the glass underneath and the quality of the fitting matter just as much.

8 mil · about 0.20 mm

8 mil: for people safety and moderate-risk glass

Where we use it in Riyadh

  • Interior partitions and meeting room walls in offices
  • Guest floor and balcony glass in hotels and serviced apartments
  • School and clinic corridors, doors and low panels
  • Villa windows and sliding doors
  • Shopfronts in moderate-risk locations

Why it suits Riyadh

It holds a broken pane in one piece and slows a quick smash and grab, at a lower cost per square metre than 12 mil. For the large areas of glass in Riyadh offices, hotels and villas, that balance is usually the right one.

12 mil · about 0.30 mm

12 mil: for exposed glass and valuable contents

Where we use it in Riyadh

  • Street-facing shopfronts with valuable stock, such as jewellery and electronics
  • Entrance doors and large glass doors
  • Ground floor glass at street level in offices and showrooms
  • Banks, exchange counters and cash-handling areas

Why it suits Riyadh

Riyadh has long stretches of glass-fronted retail and showrooms where one broken pane exposes expensive stock. 12 mil stretches further before it tears, so it gives the longest delay, and it is usually paired with edge anchoring so the pane stays in its frame. It costs more, so we recommend it where the exposure justifies it.

Why the grade matters in Riyadh

1

Summer heat on the glass

Riyadh's average July high is about 44 °C. Film and adhesive have to cope with that, and some glass types need the manufacturer's approval before film goes on. We check the film's data sheet against the glass before we recommend a grade.

2

Dust storms and gusts

Riyadh's dust storms can cut visibility to under ten metres and bring strong gusts with them. On a tower, a pane that cracks high up can drop fragments onto the street, so film that keeps it in one piece protects people below as well as inside.

3

Large panes and valuable frontage

Offices, hotels and retail strips in Riyadh use big sheets of glass, and large panes and glass doors are more vulnerable than small ones. Where the pane is big or the contents are valuable, 12 mil is worth the extra cost. Where they are not, 8 mil does the job.

4

Fitting decides the result

A well fitted 8 mil film with the right edge treatment can outperform a poorly fitted 12 mil. Heavier film is also stiffer, which makes it harder to fit on small panes and complex frames. That is why we choose the grade at the survey, not from a brochure.

Where it is used

Glass in Riyadh that benefits most

The film is the same technology on every job. What changes is the risk, the glass and the way the building is used.

Offices and towers

Lobby glass, facade panes and internal meeting room walls. Film on interior partitions reduces the risk of injury if a panel breaks.

Retail and showrooms

Shopfront and display glass, where a smash and grab is the main worry and a shattered window means a closed shop.

Villas and compounds

Ground floor windows, sliding doors and glass facing the street, garden or a shared boundary.

Hotels and serviced apartments

Lobbies, balcony doors and guest floor glass, where a breakage is a guest safety issue before it is a repair bill.

Schools and clinics

Corridor glass, doors and low panels where accidental impact is the most likely cause of breakage.

Reception and partitions

Reception screens, counters and glass walls inside banks, government offices and corporate buildings.

How a Riyadh job runs

Survey first, then film, then fitting

We do not quote from a phone call. The glass decides the film, so we look at the glass.

1

Survey

We check glass type, thickness, size, frame condition and which panes carry the most risk, and ask what you are protecting against.

2

Film choice

We recommend 8 mil or 12 mil for each pane, based on its size, position and risk. Thickness and performance figures come from the film's data sheet, not from a brochure.

3

Fitting

Film is cut to each pane and fitted by our installers, pane by pane, so rooms stay in use. We agree timing with you before we start.

4

Handover

We check the finish and edges with you, give you cleaning guidance and issue the 10 year warranty on film and installation.

Before you hire anyone

Five questions to put to any film installer in Riyadh

These apply to us as much as anyone. A good installer will answer them in writing.

1

Which film, and can I see its data sheet?

Yes. The data sheet for both grades is on our main safety film page. Whoever supplies your film should be able to show where its thickness and rating come from, so be wary of a quote that names a thickness but cannot.

2

Has the glass been checked for suitability?

Some glass types and frames need the manufacturer's approval for the warranty to stand. The installer should check before fitting, not after.

3

How are the edges finished?

Film that stops just short of the frame is common. Whether an anchoring system is also needed depends on the risk and the glass, so ask for the manufacturer's recommendation for your case.

4

What does the warranty cover, in writing?

Ask who is covered, for how long, and what is excluded. Vision Guard's cover is 10 years on film and installation.

5

Who actually fits it, and where?

Ask to see work on glass similar to yours in Riyadh, and whether the people who survey are the people who fit.

Different problem, different film

If breakage is not your main concern

Safety film is for broken glass. If your trouble is heat, glare or privacy, a different film does that job better.

Heat and glare through large windows

Sun control films are made to reduce solar heat and glare. If your rooms are too hot rather than too exposed, start with sun and heat control film, which is a separate service from safety film.

Privacy you can switch on and off

For glass that needs to be clear one moment and private the next, switchable privacy glass is a different product from safety film. Ask us and we will point you to the right option.

Questions

Safety film in Riyadh: your questions answered

Should I choose 8 mil or 12 mil film in Riyadh?

Choose 8 mil for interior glass, hotel and school corridors, villa windows and moderate-risk shopfronts. Choose 12 mil for exposed, street-facing glass and valuable stock, where you want the longest delay. The survey decides pane by pane, because glass size, glass type and edge anchoring change the answer. A well fitted 8 mil film can serve you better than a poorly fitted 12 mil.

Can you fit the film in an office tower that stays open?

Yes, fitting is done pane by pane, so most rooms stay usable while work moves through the floor. We agree the timing with the building before we start.

How do you survey a Riyadh villa before quoting?

We look at every pane you want protected: glass type and thickness, size, frame condition and which windows face the street, garden or a shared wall. We also ask what worries you most, whether that is break-ins, children or storm debris. The quote follows from that survey, not from a guess over the phone.

How is safety film different from the solar control film already on my glass?

Safety film holds broken glass together, while solar control film manages heat and glare. They do different jobs, although some films do a little of both. During the survey we check what is already on your glass and tell you whether it can stay, be removed or needs to be considered before new film goes on.

What does the 10 year warranty cover?

It covers the film and the installation for 10 years.

How do I get a price for safety film in Riyadh?

Price depends on the glass area, the film grade (12 mil usually costs more per square metre than 8 mil) and how hard the panes are to reach, so we quote after a survey. Send us the number of windows and the type of building on WhatsApp, or use the contact page, and we will arrange a visit.
